Great Aussie Rickshaw Ride Saturday 31/7

Saturday 31 July

Rob Boss-Walker hopped on the rickshaw again with his wife Christine and rode the last section into Port Macquarie.  We arrived at the very pleasant Village Green in Port Macquarie at 3:00 PM and the Federal Member for Lyne, Rob Oakeshott was on hand to meet the rickshaw, along with a reporter from the Port Macquarie Press.

Rob Oakeshott was very familiar with the issues associated with development work in Asian countries and was very supportive of our approach to work there.  He was also sympathetic to our conviction that the Australian Government needs to provide more funds for smaller development organizations like Symbiosis that have a track record of doing high quality, sustainable development in places like Bangladesh.  We are successful because we work at the grass roots, we listen to what the poor people tell us, we build good personal relationships with them and we help them with a whole-of-life approach to breaking the cycle of poverty that entraps them.

Rob also took the rickshaw for a few laps around the Village Green, much to the interest and amusement of some of the other park users.
