Wednesday 28 July
Woke up to heavy rain and gusting winds and took about 5 seconds to realize that we wouldn't be riding the rickshaw this morning; a bit disappointing as we had a full squad of riders to ride down to Coffs Harbour.
The weather cleared up a little during the day and a couple of local girls, Lucy and Mandy, were able to ride the rickshaw for the last part of the route into the centre of Coffs Harbour. The Deputy Mayor, Bill Palmer, gave them a warm welcome and was given a rickshaw tour of the town centre by the girls, which he seemed to enjoy quite well.
It was a great day for media exposure. Prime TV gave us nice coverage on their nightly news bulletin, the local newspaper covered the event and we were interviewed on local FM radio and regional ABC radio.
We also fitted in a presentation at the local Coffs Harbour Christian School in the afternoon.
Some of us had a lovely evening meal with Val Beverley, a Coffs Harbour resident who used to work in Bangladesh (and still visits Bangladesh once a year). She made Khaleque and Hozrot's day by feeding them the hottest curry they'd tasted outside Bangladesh. Made them feel right at home.
