The team had a half rest day on Thursday while in Goulburn. We stayed
for two nights in a very comfortable and reasonably priced motel, the
Willows, run by Anne and Allen. It was a in terms of room arrangement
and decor, a cut above most motels.
The ride for the day commenced from Goulburn down the Federal Highway.
When we finally received the approved route we found that it was down
the main highway which was great as it has a big side section and is a
very good road. The two riders, Troy and Jenny were amazing. Not only
did they travel over from Woollongong just to take part in the ride,
but also they rode for about 20km against a very strong, cold
headwind. I started out about 2 hours after they did and was amazed at
how much progress they made. The wind made the ride very hard.
However, they persisted. Terrific work Anne and Troy.
As there were no more volunteer riders for the day we packed up and
went to the little village of Collector. After lunch, there was a
school programme at the government Primary School. The total student
population numbered 27! Again the programme was focussed around the
two videos. Again a captivated audience. The school's teachers Melissa
(Principal) and Julie both commented that the kids will remember the
programme for a long time. Rickshaw rides around the tennis court was
the crowning act for the day. The team enjoyed a nice cup of tea or
coffee in the staff room after the children had been dismissed for the
day.
From Collector we travelled to Canberra to spend the night. We are in
the nation's capital on election day. Most of the support team have
already cast their vote. Tomorrow will be spent with riders and then
an arrival event. Very much doubt if we are to be visited by any major
figure from parliament.
