Great Aussie Rickshaw Ride - 1st September

Today we visited our 25th and 26th school, respectively The Rock
Central Public School and Yerong Creek Public school. With the rain of
this winter, the scenery is terrific, the crops are looking good and
the animals are fat.
At The Rock (where scissors and paper never have a chance) we had a
combined class of the Primary section. There were over a 100 students
in a new classroom. We had a great time with good interaction with the
students. The students watch the videos very carefully and the ones
who receive a prize whether a cap or a T shirt wear them with great
pride. One of the students, Steve, commented that the presentation was
"fantastic and very informative". Several of the students had a chance
to ride the rickshaw after the presentation. They had Ross as the
Wallah while Steve packed and the truck went onto the next venue some
40kms down the highway.
No prizes for guessing what dominates the scenery at The Rock. Yerong
Creek is the opposite. The creek is a small trickle posing as a
waterway. The surrounding country is flat. The school was established
in 1892. We managed to achieve a first at the school by bogging the
truck in a soft spot in an excavated area, the result of the
construction of a new facility at the school. We tried pushing but
that did not work. The problem was solved by connecting Ross' four
wheel drive and giving the truck a tow. There were about 35 students
at the school and enthusiastically participated in the programme. The
tone of the meeting was set by a little girl (Chelsea Jade, I think
was her name) who answered the question regarding where was Bangladesh
by saying "a long way away". Gayle, the Principal, expressed her
appreciation of the progamme by saying that it imparted lots of
knowledge to the children. Again the session was climaxed by Hajrat
giving rickshaw rides in the school grounds.
Lunch for the presentation team was had at the Bakery in the town
named Uranquinty. They served a great lunch and had a great mechanism
for recording complaints. (See the blog). Tomorrow will be in Culcairn
at 2 schools.
