Today, the 24th, the 41st day of the GARR, we broke another record.
The record was for the most number of students addressed at a school
during the GARR. In four presentations there were over 800 students
present. These were students of Burgmann Anglican College in Gungahlin
on the outskirts of Canberra. The students ranged from the early
classes to grades 9 and 10. During one of the presentations two
officers of AusAID visited to observe the presentation as the GARR is
part of AusAID's Community Call to Action (CC2A) programme.
There was great participation in all of the four presentations. The
two videos are great and engagement is enhanced with questions being
asked after each video, aided by the giving of fabulous prizes to
students giving correct answers. The prizes include GARR caps, T
shirts, copies of the dvd's, and packets of Weet Bix.
During each of the presentations, Khaleque and Hajrat perform a song
from Bangladesh. Khaleque plays the tabla's and Hajrat sings. Every
performance has been enthusiastically received. The song is actually a
lament and tomorrow we will give you an English translation of the
song to show you how appropriate it is for our whole endeavour.
